Beyond the Strip, there are many rich cultural options and access to natural beauty close by. There are also more than 60 golf courses in Clark County. Close by, natural beauty surrounds. There is hiking in Red Rock Canyon, skiing and snowboarding in Mt. Charleston and swimming in the biggest desert oasis, Lake Mead. The Grand Canyon, Valley of Fire, Zion National Park, and Death Valley are all short day trips from the Strip.
Educational Options
The continued growth of institutions of higher education in Southern Nevada, both in numbers and academic quality and reputation, are helping further the development of a strong, educated workforce, supporting existing local business and enhancing prospects for new hob opportunities. Through collaborative efforts, many of those schools also are creating an environment for continued future advancement. The 7,900-square mile Clark County School District is the fifth largest in the nation, with nearly 300,000 elementary and secondary students in 328 schools, 12 of which opened in 2006. In addition, there are more than 195 private and parochial schools in the area.
Health Care Facilities
The Southern Nevada Health District is one of the largest local public health organizations in the United States. The health district serves over 1.7 million residents, which is 70 percent of Nevada's total population. Also, the district is responsible with safeguarding the public health of more than 37 million visitors to Las Vegas each year. Las Vegas has 15 acute care hospitals, and several rehab and specialty hospitals.
